[Holloway] makes sure flashlights are all securely mounted on helmets and Hi 8s properly attached to chest harnesses. He personally checks, re-checks, packs, and re-packs all the tents, sleeping bags, thermal blankets, chemical heat packs, food, water, and First-Aid kits.

Die Wendeltreppe befindet sich in völliger Dunkelheit und man weiß nicht, ob sie überhaupt ein Ende hat. Eine erste Expedition hat jedenfalls nach sieben Stunden Abstieg auf der Treppe den Boden nicht erreicht und musste umkehren. Diese neue Expedition soll nun mehr Aufschluss geben, aber ich fürchte, das wird auch in die Hose gehen.
Ernsthaft, so etwas trifft meinen Geschmack. Eine ganz, ganz ähnlich geheimnisvolle Treppe gibt es in Jeff Vandermeers SOUTHERN REACH Trilogie, die ich sehr gerne gelesen habe.
Die Treppe ist vermutlich nur ein Teil des ganzen Mysteriums um das Haus. Überhaupt ist es ein sehr vielschichtiges Buch. Der (fiktive) Herausgeber z.B. mach eine Fußnote zum Text, in der sich eine weitere Fußnote des Editors befindet, die einen auf den Anhang des Buchs verweist, wo man dann über vierzig Seiten Briefe der Mutter des Herausgebers liest, und dabei ihren geistigen Niedergang (Schizophrenie) verfolgen kann. Das war auch so eine Wendeltreppe, die man als Leser hinabsteigt, ohne zu wissen, wo's endet :)
Vielleicht schaffe ich das Buch im Urlaub, mein Interesse wächst & wächst (und es gibt noch so, so viele andere).
Ja, das ist wohl war. Ich bin jedenfalls von HOUSE bisher sehr angetan. Ich hoffe nur, es wird nicht zu abgedreht.PS. Von SOUTHERN REACH habe ich bisher nur den ersten Teil gelesen und war nicht unbedingt begeistert, jedenfalls nicht genug um die anderen Bände in Angriff zu nehmen. Aber vielleicht mache ich das noch... irgendwann.
