I'm still not sure what I think of this book. It's like I don't get enough time with any of the characters to really know them which makes me feel really distant from the story and I'm fairly certain I know the answer to the mystery since about a quarter of the way in and I'm just waiting to find out for sure.

I imagine I'd feel the same if I'd had a daughter in that time period, knowing that she'd never have choices or freedom. That said it's not right to avoid her daughter because she doesn't like to think about Anna's future. I don't really feel like I know Harriet well and I'm not completely sure I like her.

The Cartwright, Crowther seen is a bit confusing, trying to keep the characters straight. I wish the last names were a bit more distinctive. I'm pretty sure I've got the ending all figured out.

I know that it's only normal for a man to enforce the idea of a woman's place in that time period, that said it doesn't make me less irritated to hear it done.

It might be that I'm unused to reading books set in the late 1700s, but the book reminds me more of Regency England 1800s books. It's also a bit strange that Rachel is 18 and unmarried in that specific time period.
