Toby walking away from a weak friend, magically and physically brutalized? Leaving the friend completely alone in an abandoned known? I don’t care whether that was a conscious choice by the author or an overlooking of a detail beneath her care. That detail matters. Enough to have me leave a book half-finished and walk away from a series at book 14
