Given to me in a book exchange, I'm now faced with trying to decipher this narrative. The French is difficult for me to follow, and the flowery prose will be a challenge to adjust to. But I'll try.

Rereading this like holy shit Grenouille is autistic no wonder I relate so hard to the non-murderous parts of his personality.

I am rooting for a murderer! I am enamored with him despite all his faults and all his inadequacies. It's outright bizarre and remarkable at the same time. Truly the mark of an expert storyteller.

I'm fascinated by Grenouille's psychology. I relate to his pro-solitude nature and the richness of his inner world. Grenouille calls himself evil for wanting to rule mankind by making them fall in love with him. It's my childhood fantasies come to life in book form.

Part 1 completed. It's interesting how the story weaves karma and divine punishment together in those moments of decision making.

Omniscient narration can be tricky, but I'm coming to terms with this one. I actually enjoy the psychology of the different characters. Just finished Baldini's inner rant and was captivated by the accurate transitions. And Grenouille is simply a wonderful sociopath with a bitter backstory that forces you to empathize with him. It's wicked entertainment.

Barely a few pages in and I'm swamped with information and what feels like run-on sentences. Ow my brain. Not my preferred writing style. The omniscient narrator is amusing at least.
