Sorry I didn't update.
I tried showing you the pictures from this book, but they are black-and-white, from the 90s and printed on the normal paper of this paperback edition so ... yeah.

What I can say is that the author's love for these animals is palpable and the book has made me cry several times already. Also, it's from 2001 ... guess how much has "improved" since then?

It's so eerie sometimes, you read a book from the 90s and there it is, the PERFECT quote for what is going on TODAY - and it's from 1848!

For you English-speakers:
Epidemics are like giant danger signs on which the statesman can read clearly that his people's development is disrupted in a way that not even careless politics may ignore.

Mily this book is in German right?

Trish My edition, yes, but there are English versions. In fact, the original novel is in English.

Mily I ask because I'm learning the language, if you could give me some good recommendations of easy books in German that good be great, thanks

Trish Well, definitely not this one. *lol* It depends on your level, really. Generally speaking, I recommend children's books to begin with - things like Die kleine Raupe Nimmersatt. Followed by more advanced children's stories such as Die kleine Hexe (this author has written more books along that line so you might wanna check out the others too). And if your level permits, Cornelia Funke's novels, especially the Reckless series (yes, that is the German title as it is a surname in this case) is fantastic. Also, since Christmas is "right around the corner", perhaps Der Nussknacker (yes, the original was German). Then we also have Die unendliche Geschichte.
Let me know if you need more recommmendations. :)

Mily You are amazing!! thanks Trish, and yes I love children books specially Christmas books like Doctor Seuss. I will definitely try this recommendations for children because I'm a beginner in German

Trish D'aw, thanks. It was really nothing, just the books that immediately came to mind. There is a Christmas kids' book by Cornelia Funke too: Hinter verzauberten Fenstern. It's quite lovely.
