This continued mention of gills when referring to the selkie is mildly painful to read. Selkies in mythology were shape shifting seal people so why would they have gills? They’re still mammals that breathe air... not fish.
I do love this story but there are some glaring flaws in the logic.

For two books now Elloren has done nothing but cry. Great story but the amount of crying or “tears willing in eyes” descriptives can be incredibly annoying. I’m surprised an editor didn’t catch this.
