I love the writing. The story is compelling, it's DH Lawrence! The passages in the beginning when Gertrude ruminates on nature are fulfilling in this time of Covid and lockdown. Having just finished The Sympathizer, this is another book where the writing fulfills me. I hate poorly written books. Give me the brilliant ones or none at all!
