And then this evil slug thing draws a tentacle and tries to bat Graham in the head with it, like a grumpy cat. Kinda into it, tbh.

The old trickster god survived! Delightful.

Again, no one but me holds this theory. Just me. It's dumb. Don't listen to me.

(but shallan is really a trickster god--he's lucky to deus ex machina levels, he's really tall, he self describes himself as old, music is its own magic, the cold doesn't bother him, he travels constantly.........trickster god)

Again, I do not like this proposal. Poor Valanice deserves better.

The biggest problem is that this book does not have a reunion scene with Graham and Valanice. If it had such a scene, this would taste less bitter. They clearly enjoyed Valanice as a character because she was so well used earlier--I don't know why they're even suggesting this as an option.

I do NOT like the book insinuating that Graham could be anything less than fully loyal to Valanice. This infidelity proposal ticks me right off.

This isn't Leisure Suit Larry. This is King's Quest. Miss me with this.

I legit can't tell if Morr is making a joke about Graham looking for his missing tinderbox or if they entirely forgot that he lost it like ages ago. Which I would normally just chalk up to vague inconsistencies but they kept pointing out that it was missing like ten pages ago. Maybe it's one of those dry jokes that is just off enough to not land properly.

Incredibly satisfyingly delightful, is that slizard. What a weird fantasy animal.

"What was this spell supposed to do?"
"Make perfect cream horns with just a touch of butter." A lightning bolt seared the earth in front of Graham. "What do you think it was supposed to do, fool? It would [let me take over the world.]"

The sass in the second half of this book is most delicious.

"So...I don't owe you anything for saving me, right?"
"Nope, not at all."
"Good. Then I won't feel guilty when I kill you."

Utterly hilarious that the big bad demon villain is snarling and threatening and creeping and crawling in pitch blackness, trackable only by the color of his bright red eyes, and he's coming to Graham to kill him-----and is dispatched by a chunk of masonry falling from the ceiling.
