I normally can’t handle a playback speed of even 1.1x, but I’ve got this one up to 1.6. Maybe it’s the impatient Bostonian in me but Echols’ pauses are driving me mad. They create a real waviness to the pattern of his speech - crests of few words and valleys of regular pauses - that get in the way of me focusing on the content. I may need to switch to the book, even if it’s not a carbon copy of this piece.
