Yo, my boy got his hair relaxed for the first time. Like me, he tried to be tough when he was told "when it says burning, we'll rinse it out but the longer it stays the better. Like me, he also knows what it's like to have your scalp burned off. Lol! That took me back. #relatableaf

I an learning so much about apartheid right now that I didn't even know. I use to think of it just as black people being oppressed by white people but it was even more intricate than that. The government was screwing with everybody's mind no matter your color to keep them fighting against each other in a really smart and devious way. No wonder it lasted so long, my goodness. Freaking diabolical!

Reading this book is like my childhood through one of those fun house mirrors. I grew up in Haiti, and Trevor's experiences with his mother are so close that it's familiar yet still different enough to be foreign. Like I'm at a point where I'm like "you did that too, so did we". Lol! This is taking me back.

Oh wow! Every time I think this man cannot impress me anymore, he finds a way. He goes from horror to humor to deep wisdom so quickly. I'm so glad I'm finally reading this book.

I am really curious at his family's reaction at reading this book, especially Uncle Dinky. That must have been hilarious!

OMG! I love this woman. I've watched videos of Trevor saying how gangsta his mom is, and that is truly the best way to describe her. She is without a doubt crazy and reckless but women like her are the ones who change the world and in her case without even meaning to. Lol! She cracks me up and terrifies me.

Jesus, I've never read a book so depressing and hilarious at the same time. Imagine living in a city that was specifically designed to be easily bombed in case of a rebellion. Mind blown in horror!

Wow! This woman (Trevor's Mother) is a complete bad ass. Respect! Imagine telling a guy you want a kid and him telling you he doesn't want one, and you responding "who said anything about you wanting kids, I just want your sperm". Lol!
