I love this book. I love it a good deal more than the one before. So far. In some ways. Sarah’s death is poignant, but it shows how life is. The other children still played hide and seek the evening after her funeral. They’re children. Life goes on after death.

This book I am liking so much more than the first. The first had probably 5 or 7 good chapters that I really enjoyed. This one goes together, it’s a proper narrative. I prefer it. There is going to be more about Mattie and Gard. I looked ahead. ☺️

That was intense but really...good, for lack of a better word. Edifying. Useful. Needed. The Underground Railroad is something not talked about enough.

This is a GOOD BOOK. It is saying what needs to be said, portraying what needs to be portrayed. These people are Quakers. They believe in peace and hold tight to their convictions. Yet, peace is not their god. The Lord is their God, and they are doing what is right, even in the face of man’s sinful “law”.

This is magnificent. I have read the first two chapters. It is not as lightheartedly entertaining as the first book’s early chapters were, but this one is endearing to me. The details of going west is fascinating. What he found was as close to what he was leaving as possible, only it was his own. I love it. Jess Birdwell is a person I like. Eliza is pretty good, too.
