Why does Gaia keep having "sudden clarity" moments that make her change the whole plan?

I guess I'm getting too picky, but who falls for this? I thought "why would you drink something given to you by your 'enemy'?" Then I thought, "Why would you take your eyes off your scouts?" Finally, I am sitting here thinking, "I don't think he has Leon and you're allowing him to desperate you from the crowd!?!?" I know I'm significantly older than her but COME ON!

I like the message that Peter is trying to teach Gaia---ask, don't order. Good leaders don't have to be dictators to be followed... Gosh Gaia has changed...
