reading about someone with splinted fingers when you also have a splinted finger is weird. Also, baleen would be an awful finger splint as it would become too flexible with body heat, so is it steel?

ok, so I understand my new found knowledge is because I fell down a 'costuming' home during lockdown, and my annoyance that people don't know what I now know is unhelpful and unreasonable as I'm not sure how much you'd find out with basic research, but I'm annoyed. Very annoyed.
