This is still one of my favourite books (hence the who knows how many rereads this year, lol) but the Sapphire/Emerald Blaze series definitely dinged it up for me a bit. Her mother just doesn't come across with the same level of competence that she had before I read the trilogy. It just feels a bit hypocritical and like she sets her children up for failure. Which wasn't the original takeaway I had.
