I sometimes struggle with how to rate a book when the writing is spectacular but I’m disappointed with the intentional direction the author took a character or the plot. How do you rate when you are dissatisfied with the author’s “ideas” but not the execution of the story.

I have to like the story to give it at least 4*. Sooo in your case I would give 3* or even 2* if it was really annoying or irritating... that´s my rating "system"... I have on the other side problem with rating books where the story is heart wrenching or extraordinary funny, but the writing self isn´t so great...

But then I feel bad and start thinking just because their vision wasn't my vision should I really be rating it lower if the writing was good?
