Wow, I didn't think 33 years old was that old but from this sentence it sounds ancient. "....who looked every bit of her thirty-three years and then some." I'm only 35. I feel old now.

Lilac may be 20 years old but it's like she stopped maturing at 14 years old. It's a bit off putting when Nick feels much much older. It feels morally wrong and creepy for them to be together.
