I never felt as close to anyone. Did he feel it too? Maybe he’ll change his mind. See that he can’t give me up. I tried to smother the bit of me that hoped if I’d just loved him well enough, showed him what he meant to me, made him feel what we had, he might stay. Damned stupid brain. I knew that was bullshit, and still couldn’t fully kill the hope. 😢
