This book is so goddamned long. It has started getting good a quarter of the way in, but I don’t understand why epic fantasy is always so long. For those of us who can’t skim read or speed read, it’s such a haul. Do people who love them just skip whole sections, like anything that isn’t dialogue?

And yes, I know that I have read even longer books, but that was before commercially available high-speed internet.
