No matter how much he urged Morozov to buy a still life by Cézanne, his friend flatly refused. Vollard was apparently asking a mere 150 francs for the Cézanne, a name completely unknown to them, and that was far less than Vinograd's own landscapes were fetching. To the end of his days he could not forgive himself for lacking the courage of his convictions and buying the painting himself.
