Beth's comments on GPS are a bit dated (the book was written in 2006), but her prediction that radar would be replaced by AIS has not yet come to pass. Her insistence on knowing celestial navigation was not informed by the absolute omnipresence of GPS in our current lives. But there are many wise comments, e.g., about the charts in remote locations being less accurate than the plots given by the GPS - so true!

Hey Numidica. Planning another getaway? Raining like crazy here. I could put my boat in the front yard.

Same here, Fred. Four inches of rain so far.As for trips, I can PLAN a getaway, I just can't execute it, or at least nothing very ambitious. I do plan to take the boat to Florida this summer to get work done, after I'm vaccinated. We're hoping to get our shots in May, or at least that's my best guess of when our time will come round. My son and daughter-in-law, and the grandson are coming to visit in March so we're looking forward to that.
