I just don’t feel like reading much anymore. I had this drive for a few years to prove myself by how much I could read but this last year I realized I barely even enjoyed it: an extension of the workaholism I learned as a kid through my parents: never enough, do more, do better. Fuck that=I quit=I don’t like reading right now=I need a break=I need to slow down. I miss the days when I LOVED books.

Devin I used to see reading largely as a process instead of an activity, one that either contributed to my knowledge or a acted as step along the path of personal growth. That put a lot of pressure on pace and selection and made it feel like an obligation instead of an escape. In the past few years my perspective has shifted, now I think most of the time it's just a more stimulating replacement for TV.

Kala A friend of mine recently encouraged me to "end your toxic relationship with the library," as I was putting too many books on hold and then getting stressed out that I couldn't read them fast enough. I still have 8 books on hold but they are all "paused" until the end of April and its been really nice to remove that pressure.
