I just don’t feel like reading much anymore. I had this drive for a few years to prove myself by how much I could read but this last year I realized I barely even enjoyed it: an extension of the workaholism I learned as a kid through my parents: never enough, do more, do better. Fuck that=I quit=I don’t like reading right now=I need a break=I need to slow down. I miss the days when I LOVED books.

I'm forcing myself to keep listening to this. I feel really challenged by it--perhaps because of my covert transphobia, ableism, white supremacy, etc. and/or perhaps because I judge this book to have a lot of problematic ideas within it. Lots to think about either way and I appreciate the challenge!

Not sure how I randomly picked two books in a row set in the 80s surrounding a character dying of aids. Also not sure how I randomly selected four books in a row about death... is this a sign?? ...I like this book so far!

Feeling triggered! It’s been a LONG time since I read a book about Christianity and it is bringing up ALL sorts of body memories from the past. I’m gonna try to stick it out, but damn, it’s not fun to remember my Christian upbringing and the church in general.

Looking for recommendations of fantasy books/series that don't involve a ton of violence...I want to nurture creativity and joy.
Eg. I loved the Redwall series as a kid, but it's still way too violent for me...

god damn, it's like being their therapist but I just have to let them keep talking--I can't actually have any input in a couple's eternal disconnection and conflict. this is not enjoyable to read.
I don't think relationship is complex; it's CHALLENGING, but it's not rocket science: listen, reflect, hold space, reassure, give space, ask for what I need, set boundaries, respect autonomy, cherish connection. BRGGH ;)

I’m tired of reading books that others deem impressive or important. I’m tired of reading books I don’t like. I think it all stems from a very early-life need to be thought of as intelligent. I don’t want to try to prove myself anymore. I’m going to dedicate the next few months to books that are actually FUN to read. First up: the hunger games.

I don’t like this book and I feel triggered. I have so many judgements about the author (and, in general, therapists who haven’t done their own healing work, yet continue to practice and profit off of others). I’m projecting all the bad therapists I’ve personally encountered onto her...

Oh, god, I can’t connect with this depressed, life-is-pointless and why-am-I-alive shit anymore. And thank god I don’t because that was a REAL bummer to live.

This is my third attempt to read Educated and I FINALLY get why people love this ♥️

One moment I’m skimming a chapter, feeling so bored with how technical and arcane (I just had to look that word up to make sure I was using it correctly—A word that few know to describe a thing that few know—meta?) it is. Like “Jesus Christ, what the fuck does this have to do with anything???” And then ten minutes later I’m feeling a huge emotional connection to the writing. I Feel Confused by this book!

I’m having flashbacks to that time I read Anna Karenina (Also because people told me it was GREAT) and the whole time I was reading it I hoped every character would miraculously and simultaneously die so the book would be over.

In the first few pages I thought, “is this guy legit or just a literary, intellectual creep posing as a tough guy who can write?” Well, I feel differently now. It’s one of those books that restores my faith in art and story—the absolute joy and pleasure of immersing myself in someone else’s creation!

I give up... when I was 21 I would have pushed through because I worshipped him, but now I just see him as a depressed old man who ironically never learned to communicate effectively...

I’m reading a memoir of a guy who was in a tv show that my roommate, when I was 23, loved (👋🏻😛 hi ian!)... this is proof I’ll listen to almost anyone’s life story.

I find this book to be both simultaneously VERY boring and VERY interesting.

My buddy, Daver, told me about this book, but I think I bought the wrong one. I though this was Taryn Broch’s best selling 90s-surfer memoir titled “Radical Challenges: embracing the gnar and shreddin with Buddha”... honestly bummed... I heard that was a sick book... I guess I’ll give this one a try though... damm... shouldn’t buy books when I’m so faded... oh well... 😛🤙🏻

a lot of “oh yeah, I feel that” moments when describing his abuser (his pedophile coach) and how it affected him for the rest of his life (eg. Anger, denial, drug/alcohol abuse, dysfunctional relationships, fear of intimacy and closeness)...

Oh, god, listening to this author is like driving dull nails into my forehead with a plastic child’s hammer: slow and horrendous / “WHY ISN’T 2x SPEED FAST ENOUGH TO END THIS TORMENT???”

I’m having a hard time with this one. I bought the audiobook and I regret it! Her voice drives me crazy, it’s poorly edited and the audio quality is painful.

I also question/judge how healed/whole a person is who writes a book for other people to heal (“I have something that will save others!”). I judge the author to be condescending and full-of-shit... but I love a lot of the stuff she speaks about 😂
