I DNF'd my first (and only) book by this author last week

Ugh. I wouldn't be reading this, except a new friend was absolutely adamant about how amazing it is, so I feel like I should at least try. So far, the first five chapters feel like the author just wanted an excuse to wax nostalgic about life in 2001. Tv show references, Steve Madden shoes, answering machines, all crammed into the first two pages.
