He builds up false pride...or false humility...to make himself feel legitimate. He does believe what he’s doing is best for the country. I think. It’s just his way of looking at it. He’s just ruthless. At the bottom of it, he is greedy, though. Even if it isn’t for good reason, he believes it is, and that’s what keeps him going.
