I wonder if Tom Joad and his acquaintance will find his family before they leave for California. There has yet to be a large-scale conflict, and if Tom finds his family, the only objective for the characters will be to find work in California. This will be the case unless a conflict is already happening with his family, which was hinted when the former preacher did not know where they were and had not seen them.
