hmm this is very exciting, but the main character's cluelessness is getting to be a problem. it's 1846, you're a white abolitionist man, you have black friends, and no one has told you that black people can't vote? you're a COP and no one has walked you through the rules on when black people can testify in court? I'm just a little skeptical here.
