I am really enjoying this book. I was also surprised by a certain passage between the Vicar and the doctor. They were discussing capital punishment and crime through a scientific perspective. The Doctor was talking about how in the future they would cringe from the way people handled the law against the citizens much like they currently felt remorse for witch burnings in that time.

Another point that the doctor made was that in the future society may well look at crime in a purely scientific light, that criminal behavior might simply be due to "glands", a disease rather than a character flaw to be punished for, and their families punished for. He also cited suicide rates. He was adamant that these people should be out of the hands of police/parson. That they are innocent. AC is Queen.
