Jess is still alive and trying to survive. She buries up her dad's body to get bullets. Instead she also finds a map and energy bar. She uses the map to find a little cabin. Winter is coming and she now plans out what she will do when the men come back, and when winter comes.

This book is about a girl who is disabled in a car accident that killed her mom. She has to now live with her dad, a wilderness freak. Her dad gets into trouble with some people at his cabin in Alaska and dies. She is now up there alone and injured, and no one knows. She writes in a journal what she does everyday such as making a shelter finding food, and making a fire.
