I read the first page yesterday afternoon then set it aside until 1 am this morning. I've picked it up and put it down here and there all day with no real sense of commitment yet. I'm clutching my optimism with hopeful claws but, thus far...I'm tired of the heroine and the too-proper-to-be-real dialogue. I'm guessing this obsessed aversion to using contractions and colloquial language is academic collateral damage
