After eight years here, I just now discovered Goodreads allows one the option to only allow friends to comment on reviews; what an incredibly liberating feeling!
Apologies ahead of time to the strangers who occasionally leave genuinely lovely comments (please do send a friend request if you want to engage); I just cannot relinquish this chance to vanquish the gremlins lurking in the dark corners of social media.

But.... but how will you receive unsolicited links to online porn from strangers? Or offers to buy skincare products from your high school acquaintances?

I never used this option. It is easy to ignore and block trolls, but sometimes strangers make really interesting comments.

It is easy to ignore and block trolls, but sometimes strangers make really interesting comments."They certainly do, but in my experience comments from strangers are weighted in favour of the annoying rude ones, and since all comments from strangers in my case tend to be on 4+-years old reviews that I've more or less forgotten about anyway, it's an easy decision to make.

I find it sad how many trolls have come to GR. It's a niche platform. They really should rather go to Twitter.
