the part about the conversion of Iceland is.... an interesting mix of violence and miracles???
like you can see the elements of "aw, poor christians, the heathens wouldn't let us spread the gospel :'(" in there, but also they're just killing people who are like "nah" and hewing off limbs.
hella mixed messages

You think Biblical Genealogies are a trip?
Honey.
Asgrim not only slew his brother, Gauk
He then proceeded to NAME HIS CHILDREN THE SAME NAME
THREE CHILDREN
ALL NAMED THORHALL
TWO SONS NAMED THORHALL
AND A DAUGHTER NAMED THORHALLA
where was the mother during all this wtf [as if she got a say, she was probably terrified of this guy]

If you like this, might be worth looking at a book called Saga Land co-authored by the subject of the book and a prominent talk radio personality/history enthusiast: Kári Gíslasson & Richard Fidler. Kári is the product of an illicit affair between his Australian mother and a married Icelandic man; he spent his first ten years in Iceland before relocating to the UK, then Australia. Fidler joins him on a journey to Iceland to get legal proof of his heritage so he can be put in the Íslandingabók alongside his half siblings, and their journey is interspersed with stories from the sagas and Kári's own experiences of Iceland.
