When I first started writing, I just let the story unfold however it wanted to!

This made for A LOT of cutting and rewriting once it came time to edit.

Now, I find it's better for the story (and for my sanity!) to have a general idea of where things need to go. My characters still surprise me, and the magic of exploring who they are as I go is still there. I just have more structure. ;)
