I think the pandemic finally broke my brain and I've fallen out of love with reading and listening to books. I'm just not enjoying anything anymore. Maybe it's time to change things up completely? I've been reading (and reviewing) primarily YA for 15 years. Maybe it's time to focus on just non-fiction and comics for a while? Something different to reboot my brain. Anyone else struggling?

Maybe I should read the shortlist for the Women’s prize for fiction? I used to only read 'superior 20th century literature' when I was in my late teens / early 20s. Maybe that's what's missing from my life

I have a similar experience, but transitioning back to classics didn't work for me. Switching up to adult and lighter genres is keeping me afloat. Romance, mysteries, etc. I stopped reading YA almost completely.

Romance might be an idea - I think I've read two romance novels in my life (of the chick-lit variety, not YA romance) and maybe it's just what I need.
I was reading Prison Healer and found it so dark that I opted to read Elie Wiesel's Night instead. That was far more rewarding and life-changing.

Not sure if this will ever change.
I'm at the same point, transitioning away from most YA at the moment and finding new kinds of books to enjoy. I too have been gravitating towards more adult and lighter genres -- recently I've loved People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry and Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. And in terms of YA, I've been enjoying new books for older readers that may well have been adult/new adult but were marketed as YA, such as Yolk by Mary H.K. Choi and A Sitting in St. James by Rita Williams-Garcia. Best of luck to you climbing out of your slump!

And I'm not enjoying the books I'm finishing either.
I agree with you. I think we've all changed in fundamental ways and it's possibly permanent

Will check out the other books you've mentioned. Pachinko and Yolk sound very good. Was the Emily Henry a friends-to-lovers story? I'm not a fan of those at all (due to some unfortunate life experiences)
Yes it’s very much a friends to lovers story so probably not for you. Her other book Beach Read is also a fun read but with a different dynamic.
