Currently reading the source material from the states declaring their desire to succeed following the election of an abolitionist friendly president. There are arguments for slavery showcased as a positive vs wage labor trying to paint it as a net good combined with the fear or what will happen in the inevitable post-slavery era which is foreshadowing reconstruction and attitudes that carry over to even today.
