◾During Hemingway’s early childhood, Grace acted on her wish that her son had been a girl by dressing him as a twin to his sister, Marcelline, 18 months older. Little boys often wore dresses at the time, but not the frilly dresses and bonnets in which Grace dressed her son. He even had dolls and a tea set that matched Marcelline’s.
