Romance authors, stop trying to pass off your 5’5 or under heroines as tall. They’re not. If you really want them to have long legs or describe them as willowy, make them goddamn taller. IT’S OKAY TO HAVE TALL HEROINES FFS

Sadie Forsythe I suppose it matters which part of the world they live in and what the average height is. I'm 5"6' and feel pretty average for an American, though Google tells me the average American female height is ~5"4". But Google also tells me the average woman is ~4"11' in the Philippines, for example.

But I totally take your point regardless, I hate when the authors descriptions don't match the characters. My "favorite" is when the woman is all "soft curves" but is also super skinny. Ummm, mate, if she has no padding she's not soft anything and if she's super athletic or a warrior, etc that probably even includes little chest.

I take your point about average heights and would credit authors with paying attention to national averages if they also made their male mc's average height as well. Which they don't.

Having said that, we all know a romance heroine must be long-legged, big boobed, soft, athletic, willowy and tiny. In other words, a goddamn impossible contradiction.
