An engrossing murder mystery. The characters are fascinating, from the main protagonist to the secondary characters of the sheriff and Lena, his deputy. There are very explicit violent sexual scenes, which a seasoned homicide cop will find familiar, but a layperson may find uncomfortable. I am starting this series a decade behind it's writing, but it is timeless as far as a good old fashioned homicide case goes.
