It took me almost 1/2 hour longer to read this than it did a novel with 100 more pages. Probably because I kept stopping to comment, and react to the text in various ways (stopping to laugh, and such), but also I couldn’t help going back to look at a page again, or re-read bits as I went along.

While I kind of got a U.S. army vibe from the parents, I don’t think this is set in the U.S. England?
Thomas’ uniform looks a little… off, with the ballooned pants, and the sisters’ flashback has their brother talking about living on estates.

Dude, the kid’s like 3 ft. Away from the piano, what do you see her doing?!
