I had hoped that I was wrong about how things were gonna turn out but, alas! I wasn't and that breaks my heart T_T

"But it wasn't right because the world outside was about to go to war. It was all forced cheer. The last laugh before darkness came."

They weren't kidding, things escalated super fast :O Now, I'm really worried. The feeling that something bigger and bad is lurking in the shadows just intensified.

"Everything is still the same. I am still here. Your found family, we are here. We have everything we need."

I cringe so badly every time I read "found family" in the actual book. You just need to say "family", who on earth calls it " found family" when referring to the people they love and considered family, regardless of blood? Nobody. Stating - very unnecessarily - the name of the trope just makes it... awkward.

"There was blood on her hands that never dried. So many deaths she was losing count. What was more blood when she was up to her elbows in it? What was one more step, an inch deeper into the abyss? If she must lose herself to her revenge, then she was fine with it."

I think this quote describes the book really well. It's really dark but has that eerie beauty that I love.

"Emiil was forever running in this forest — in his dreams and in waking. He was always sprinting, away or towards something unreachable."

I'm feeling a lot more connected and sympathetic towards Emiil in this book. I like him.

"We are free now. Let chaos quiver in our wake. For we have the power to do anything at all. Isn't that wonderful?"

I love how dark and twisted this is. I literally think there's no not unhinged character and that's beautiful.

"I know. I know you're scared. I am too. But if we do this, it all goes away. I promise."

I wasn't expecting this friendship but I really like it exactly because of that. It's sweet. Now, I just want Emiil to realize he is not in love with Nadia and recognize that his affections are elsewhere ;)

"Venne could not shake the feeling they were being watched. That the monster of his past would eat him alive before this journey's end."

Not eerie at all.

"What did this man want with her? What were his promises worth? She had been given promises before by a boy [...] That boy was gone now, abandoning her to her misery."

It is really hard to trust again when you have been so sharply wounded, I feel Nadia very much.

"Framed against the dying light, Venne saw two girls. One dressed in blood, laughing and dancing in euphoria. Another, a faded version, yet somehow still burning as bright as a star. Tired and alone."

This book has a bit of a more subdued tone from the really dark and reveling of the previous one. It suits it.
