Cyrena Lohr's disappointment with sight reminds me of Jeanne Morreau's character in Until the End of the World 😥

A camera is "a box with a single eye that ate time." Lordy I love this sculptor's writing 😁

Catling's brief meditation on the Gabbett-Fairfax Mars pistol is a thing of brutal comic beauty that reminds me he's primarily a sculptor 8)

On this audio re-read, I'm realizing the best comparison for this trilogy might be to Gene Wolfe, if Wolfe decided to tackle post-colonial historical fantasy. I'm especially hung up on all the Williams. Is Pete Ishmael's father? Or vice versa? What's Este's relationship to Modesta? WTF is up with Sidrus, knowing his fate as a grotesque [REDACTED]? How does Meybridge and Gull's story and real life invention relate?

I've enjoyed the audio version of the third book so much that I wanted to experience the other two in this form. I think it's better this way!
