The "twists" were therefore less surprising and more just confusing. The romances were pretty well done, although I wished for more interactions with the main, and then he went fully in. And yet, if one is pledged to protect another, why did they not try to find them when taken?

There were a couple times I felt the continuity was a little off. Overall I enjoyed the pacing and it was easy to keep reading. The author focused on eventful moments, and although it could be hard to keep track of the time passing between each event, it was fairly consistent. I felt the lore and creatures were hard to keep track of especially since the character herself struggled too.
