"Mass suburbanization was a tremendously profitable and financially stimulating concept for capitalism, as it required that every family duplicate the purchases of every other family. Each suburbanized family lives in a separate house, with front and back yards, and their own washing machine, dryer, lawn mowers, TV, two cars— a model consumer paradise at a time when there seemed to be no limits. Only a half century."
