I appreciate that the author doesn't soften the narrator, he remains as brutal at the end as he is at the first.

This repulsive narrator. It's rare I loathe a protagonist so much; I can find something sympathetic in nearly everyone. But the way he feels he is damned because he has sex with a man, rather than for murder and rape! And the continuing wish of it!
