Wow, this book is racist as hell! What in the ever loving HELL was I thinking about the first time I read it? I mean, "oriental" to describe an Asian woman? Tired looking like an old MULE to describe a black man? WTF??? Imaginative writing, eloquence with words and the ability to conjugate verbs does not negate the racist tones in this book. Midst pandemic re-read has changed my opinion for sure.
