Didn't have a chance to respond to a book reading group's comments that defended their describing this book as a "rant" and that the author seemed angry. This is actually a very scholarly (and sometimes dry) retelling of history, including Native People's point of view. Some white people just can't stand to take an honest look at the way the USA was established--built on the genocide of First Nations.

Had to return it to the library but I plan on buying it. Dunbar-Ortiz explains well the mythology America is based on, exposing why many white Americans ignore or deny the racist and genocidal underpinnings of this country. I'll write more as I read more.
