I just started this this. The first sentence is a keeper:
"Across grey waters, where the river Mersey meets the Irish Sea, wind turbines puncture the dawn horizon like spinning crucifixes."
Then I looked up the meaning of reprobation and found that, in theology it means 'the act of consigning or the state of being consigned to eternal punishment' which makes me wonder why the main character became a Calvinist nun.
