I used to not get how high school romances translated as epic loves in stories--and I still kind of think they're dumb... but I sorta see what people are getting at. You're just not as open as an adult/when you're older as opposed to when you're 17. When you're 17 you trust and love with your whole heart. Shit's impactful.
