I love the writing in this book but the content is what I can only describe as aggressively heterosexual. “Trample the Dead, Hurdle the Weak,” which was actually one of my favorite stories so far, would have been MUCH more compelling if the underlying queerness had been addressed.

FINALLY coming back to finish this book I started in college. My feelings about it are a bit mixed so far. The first story, “The Zero Meter Diving Team,” is excellent. Each one has had at least one surprising emotional punch, and Shepard’s ability to turn the heart of the story around on a dime is very impressive. The themes are extremely repetitive, though.
