I like a good family saga, and this one has what it takes.
I am now in book 2 "Christine" and enjoying the story. The narrators voice and rhythm is very engaging and we sweep thru history and the personal events of the characters lightly. The language (in original German) is easy and clear, I think that's quite the best for such a long story. But it is carefully and beautifully written.

This feels like a grand movie that will transport us in time and space !
The voice of the narrator transmits to me a strange mix of acquiered wisdom and big uncertainties and lack of confidence, as if she was trying to decide if she is a complete failure or a great success of emancipation. I guess the coming 1200 pages will shed some light !
