I'm five pages in and I'm already docking this guy a star because he introduces someone with a last name only, making me flip frantically through the first four pages and doubt my own sanity because I can't remember this person being mentioned before. My English professors would have an apoplexy.

I get that it may have been done for reasons of privacy, but if that's the case the author should have said so.
